Your right to choose a dentist is important. We work closely with your dentist, but a referral by a dentist is not required to visit our office. We also welcome referrals from patients and friends of the practice.

What Is A Periodontist?

A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal (gum) disease and in the placement and maintenance of dental implants. Periodontists are experts in the treatment of all forms of periodontal disease, including gingivitis, periodontitis, and gingival recession, and have specialized training in placing implants.

The American Dental Association recognizes periodontics as one of the specialties of dentistry. Periodontists receive extensive training, including three years of additional education beyond dental school.

What Is An Oral Medicine Specialist?

Oral medicine is a specialty of dentistry concerned with the diagnosis and non-surgical management of complex medical conditions involving the oral and maxillofacial structures. The mouth can be one of the first areas, and sometimes the only area, to show symptoms of some of the systemic and autoimmune condition. As oral health care providers, we have an advantage and responsibility to diagnose these conditions in their early stages, and thus help in the management, making oral medicine a liaison between medicine and dentistry.
